Hi, is it easy to travel between countires in south America? We want to travel independently however the company we booked our flights with seem to strongly suggest that we do tours. I understand that they are on commission but have other people found it releatively easy to organise their own routes?

Hi jennandben,
Border crossing in South America is very easy. I backpacked 18 months in South America and crossed quite a few borders on the way. I have a page about border crossing in South America here. If you have plenty of time to travel and you don't fancy tours independent travel is the way to go. The "gringo route" is followed by all backpackers. Traveling and organizing your trip in South America is very easy so there's nothing to worry about. You have the flights already booked, the only thing left is having lots of fun in South America. Feel free to ask more questions. I'll do my best to help you out. Best wishes, Mark
