DefaultChe Guevara - Between Man and Myth

It's been 40 years since Che Guevara, one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, was captured and assassinated in the remote village of La Higuera, Bolivia. Fighting against poverty and oppression in Latin America he joined Fidel Castro to overthrow the Cuban dictator Batista. Born in Rosario, Argentina, Che Guevara would later engage in guerrilla warfare in Latin America and Africa. His last battle ended with his death on October 9, 1967.

The myth of Che Guevara, el revolucionario, has been used and abused throughout the world. His image appears on t-shirts, flags, posters, etc... He has become a fantasy of many would be "libertadores".

Best wishes,

Mark

How much of a visible mark has he left? Are there street murals and museums for him? I'd like to see them when I go if there are!

DefaultChe Guevara Museums

Hi OllieYido,

Welcome to the forums of Travel Amazing South America. During my travels in South America I've not seen many murals and museums of Che Guevara but maybe I wasn't paying attention, so many things to see and to do.

There is a Che Guevara museum in Alta Gracia, not too far away from Cordoba, in Argentina. Also in Argentina there is an Ernesto "Che" Guevara Provincial Park in Caraguatay, a municipality some distance away from Puerto Iguazú. He spent part of his childhood there.

Obviously Cuba is the place to be to encounter Che Guevara memorabilia.

Best wishes,

Mark
