Default Panama city-Rio de Janeiro which Route

Hello,

This July I’m going to travel with a friend in three months from New York to Rio the Janeiro. We have already planned our route till Panama City, as far as this it possible...) the question is now how we can come of Panama to Rio in 4/6 weeks. We would like to see Colombia and explore the Amazon rainforest for a bit. But which route to take is very hard to decide!

I’m hoping you guys can help me make a decision,

Thanks,
Coen (Dutch name)

Default Panama City to Rio de Janeiro

Hi Coen,

Your first big decision will be how to travel from Panama to Colombia. You have to cross the Darien gap and it's dangerous. In Colombia you can work your way to Tres Fronteras, an area of the Amazon Rainforest where Brazil, Peru, and Colombia meet. The three cities Tabatinga (Brazil), Leticia (Colombia), and Santa Rosa (Peru) are located here.

From Tabatinga it's a very long way to Rio de Janeiro. Manaus seems to be a logical stopover before traveling South to Rio. Make up a list of things you want to do in Brazil and plan your route accordingly. You're going to have a wonderful trip.

Best wishes,

Mark
