This is a very good question. Is it safe for a woman to travel on her own in South America? Hopefully some of you will join in and share their experiences.

As you may know, I have traveled 18 months non-stop in South America. I have met many women traveling alone. They were having the time of their life. Some of them joined people while traveling, others explored this fantastic continent by themselves.

The best advice I can give you is to use your common sense. If you get an invitation to go to a tropical island to spend the night by all means go but take somebody with you. Avoid badly lit streets at night. If you feel uncomfortable somewhere do consider taking a taxi to your destination.

I have some great info about women safety on the following pages:
Women travelers in Peru
Women travelers in Brazil

And yes, they love you very much if you're a blonde (that goes for men too). Just enjoy the journey, use your common sense and you'll have the time of your life.

Best wishes,

Mark
