Hey Mark, Im just starting to plan a trip to South America and I came across your site, which is amazing by the way! Ive read through all of the threads and am just after some advice on potential routes etc..
I have around 2.5 months (11 weeks) from the start of June until the middle/end of August and around 2600 euros. Im 25 and I have done some traveling around central america, Asia, Europe and Australia. I be going solo so I defo want to meet people, have a bit of banter and see some cool sites. Like I said I've just started planning so any advice would be much welcomed. Ive sort of focused on Brazil (maybe), argentina, Bolivia and Peru. So here goes..... Starting in Rio -Iguazu - BA - Mendoza - Salta - Uyuni, La Paz - Lake titcaca - Cuzco - finishing in Lima. I am aware of the travel distances in SA so I am kinda considering omitting Brazil (starting in BA), giving me more time inn the Andean countries. What u think? I saw on some threads u recommended Santa Rosa/Rurrenabaque for jungle trek? Worth it? and how much time would I need for this? Also which of the countries would you recommend spending most time in and would Ecuador be worth a look if I left out Brazil or changed around some stuff? Any help would be much appreciated dude, Thanks, Ciaran. |

The itinerary looks fine to me. In terms of saving travel time your idea of starting the trip in Buenos Aires is a good move but... you'll miss one of the most mesmerizing cities of our planet... Rio de Janeiro.
Ecuador is beautiful too but it's going to be hectic with just 11 weeks. You should definitely spend as much time as you can in Bolivia and Peru. I spent 3 months in Peru and 3 months in Bolivia. Both countries are breathtaking. Rurrenabaque/Santa Rosa is highly recommended, one of the best places in South America to see an abundance of wildlife.
