Default New Currency on January 1, 2008

Venezuela will have a new currency on January 1, 2008. The traditional "bolivar" will be called "bolivar fuerte". Three zeros will be lost. 1,000 bolivares (bs) will become 1 bolivar fuerte (BsF).

The change in currency is set up to bolster Venezuelans' perception of a strong currency in a bid to curb inflation, which is now highest in Latin America.

Best wishes,

Mark
