I would like to backpack through Argentina. Now I have some questions. Where can i spend the night in Argentina? The distances between the beautiful places are huge? Which transport resources are the best if you want go from Perito Moreno to ushaia? I Rather not go by plane. Is backpacking in general in Argentina not enormously expensive? (accommodation, food, transport...)? Concerning what kind of amount do we speak then? I gladly like to see Buenos Aires, fire country, el Calafate, peninsula valdes, Iguazú, national park talampaya in the province Rioja, Ushaia, Mar del plata and the Nahuel Huapi lake. How long would I need to see everything? Do someone know a perfect route so i can see all these places? Greetings Anita

Hi Anita,
Welcome to the forums of Travel Amazing South America. Argentina is absolutely breathtaking, a dream for the adventurous backpacker. The good news is that traveling in Argentina is very cheap. The bad news that distances are enormous and a travel plan will have to be made. I'm going to list the places you want to see from North to South:
It's always very difficult to predict daily costs. As a general rule you can start by setting a budget of $15 - $20 per day. You can find wonderful hostels starting from $4 in some towns. If you're really going for it you can spend the night on camping grounds with your own tent but you have to be prepared to do so (camping gear, etc...). Meals don't go more than a few dollars. Just don't set your daily budget too low. Calculate some fun stuff into your budget such as cruising amongst the wonderful whales in Puerto Pyramides. The following are some timetables to travel from Buenos Aires by bus:
Distances in km and the time to get there if you fly from Buenos Aires: ![]() Best wishes, Mark

Hey Mark
Thanks for your reply. But i have some more questions. If you travel long distance by bus, can you buy your bus ticket at every bus station in Argentina or can you arrange your ticket before you go to Argentina? Do you know websites with information about bus hours, bus ticket costs, ... in English? Can you buy a enter ticket at the national parks: Tierra del fuego, Los Glaciers, Nahuel Huapi, Iguazu, Tamampaya and Ischigualoste, Peninsula Valdes and for the boat trips on the beagle canal? Or do you recommend to arrange tours before i go to Argentina? Because the tours i saw on the internet are expensive and all by plane. You also sleep in hotels i rather sleep in hostels. (low budget) Please give me advise because i don't know how i best plan everything. I wanna see so much but i don't have a view how i can to al that. How did you start to plan your trip? It also makes everything so hard because i can't speak or read Spanish. Every advice is welcome. greetings anita |

Hi Anita,
The first thing you should do is to go out and buy Lonely Planet's "Argentina" travel guide book. The Lonely Planet guide books are very popular amongst backpackers. I traveled 18 months in South America with their "South America on a shoestring" guide book and also used their separate guides for Peru and Brazil. The books are excellent. I can highly recommend them. There is no need to book hostels, tours and bus tickets in Belgium. Everything can be booked in hostels and travel agencies in Argentina. -- Just for your information We have hostels in almost every city of Argentina. You can get a great hostel for a few dollars. You only pay 10% and a booking fee of $2 now. You pay the remaining 90% when you arrive at the hostel. It works great. I use it all the time.
So, your first step is buying a return plane ticket from Brussels to Buenos Aires. If you know your arrival date in Buenos Aires you can book your hostel using our online hostels booking system so you'll have a place to spend the night when you arrive. Once in Buenos Aires you start shopping around for a bus ticket to, let's say, Iguazu. This means going to the bus terminal in Buenos Aires and checking out the bus agencies. It's best to buy your ticket a few days in advance. If you like our hostel booking system you can book your hotel before leaving to Iguazu. In Iguazu you arrange the travel plans for your next destination following the same steps mentioned above. Buying tickets for popular national parks is very straightforward. Your hostel and travel agencies in town will have tickets and/or tours available. You can pick the one that fits your budget. Best wishes, Mark
